Moorlands radio is a local community radio station in Leek dedicated to the people of the Staffordshire Moorlands. The aim is to highlight local issues and events as well as entertain. Local people are encouraged to come to the studio to tell us about their interests and what is going on out in the community.
The Churnet Valley Living landscape Project is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in the Staffordshire moorlands and there are many ways that everyone can become part of it. Because of its importance to the Moorlands it was inevitable that Moorlands Radio become involved. For example, we visit the many projects, record on site, speak to the volunteers and find out how they got involved and see the amazing results their contributions make. The recordings are edited and played as part of a live broadcast with a team member of that particular project.
We are just a small part of this amazing scheme, but proud to think that because of our broadcasting, more people are aware of the important regeneration and conservation of the wildlife habitat and our industrial heritage. More importantly that local people can play a part in this far reaching legacy for the Staffordshire moorland by becoming volunteers.
