The Churnet Valley has a remarkable history that stretches back to prehistory. The most dramatic chapters, and the ones that have left the most obvious marks on the landscape, are the more recent.
In Victorian times a series of pioneering industrialists and entrepreneurs changed the face of the valley. People invested fortunes, experimented with new technologies and connected the Churnet Valley to a wider world.
We want to find and tell the stories of these visionaries who made the valley we know today.
